Empowering Families Through Livestock Sharing
The Nzuri Project is a community empowerment initiative implemented by Refuge and Honey Center (RHC) to improve the livelihoods of refugees and vulnerable households through small livestock distribution.
The project is built on a simple but powerful principle: "Receive, Grow, and Pass It On." Through this approach, beneficiaries are not only supported to improve their own lives but are also given the opportunity to help others in their community.
In the first phase of the project, 10 refugee households received hens to begin poultry farming. The hens provide families with opportunities to produce eggs, improve household nutrition, and generate income through the sale of eggs and chickens.
What makes the Nzuri Project unique is its sustainability model. Once the hens reproduce and the beneficiaries establish their poultry flocks, each participating family agrees to pass on three hens to another vulnerable household. This creates a cycle of support that allows the project to reach more families without requiring continuous external funding.
The project promotes self-reliance, community solidarity, and economic resilience. By sharing resources and opportunities, beneficiaries become active contributors to the development of their community rather than passive recipients of assistance.
Through the Nzuri Project, Refuge and Honey Center is helping refugee and host community families build a brighter future, strengthen food security, increase household income, and create lasting positive change.
